Binkley Preschool has been enriching hearts and minds since 1965
Binkley Preschool is a half-day preschool centrally located in the heart of Chapel Hill, serving children ages 2, 3 and 4.
Our mission and philosophy is unchanged since our founding in 1965. Binkley Preschool was founded on the belief that all children in the community can benefit from a high quality preschool experience. Our unparalleled scholarship program helps make this possible for many families.
At Binkley Preschool, we have always believed that children learn best through play. We strive to foster a loving, nurturing, environment that is challenging, stimulating, and age appropriate. Our goal is to give our preschoolers a solid foundation upon which to build their education.
Our fine teaching staff is the heart of our school. The average teacher tenure at Binkley is 9+ years. All of our teachers have children who are Binkley graduates or are currently enrolled. These teaching professionals offer a wealth of experience to our children and to everyone in the Binkley Family.

We accept applications year round! Our initial enrollment period for the following school year is January 3 – January 14. Applications for the 2023-2024 school year will be available December 1, 2022.
Why choose Binkley Preschool?
Our program is built upon a quality teaching staff. The staff averages 9+ years at Binkley and all teachers have First Aid and CPR certification. Teachers participate in at least 10 hours continuing education yearly. Each class has 2 teachers.
In addition to our classroom fun, Binkley offers an introduction to music, physical education and drama. Four year olds classes have Spanish instruction. Also, each day features a dedicated block of unstructured, outdoor play.
We offer a central location with ample parking. Near University Mall in Chapel Hill, Binkley Preschool is on all major bus routes.
From its beginning in 1965, the school was conceived as a mission to the community by providing a quality preschool experience for all children within the community. With the support of Binkley Church, we are happy that this mission continues today.
We have collected items to help children in the Philippines, immigrant families from Afghanistan, collected money for Meals on Wheels, and we held a schoolwide clothing supply drive for hurricane victims in NC.
Binkley Preschoolers enjoy large, natural playgrounds and light filled rooms with floor to ceiling windows.
Our History
In the fall of 1965, Binkley Kindergarten was established as an outreach ministry of Olin T. Binkley Baptist Church.
The school was conceived as a mission to the community with the goal of providing a quality preschool opportunity for children of all backgrounds within the community. We are excited to be celebrating our 56th year this year and proud that we still uphold the goals of our founders.

Teachers set the stage for hands-on learning in a stimulating manner that will instill excitement, curiosity, problem solving, sharing and freedom of expression. It is the role of the teacher(s) to act as a facilitator – answering questions, offering encouragement, redirecting problem situations and helping children focus on tasks. Binkley aims to foster, in each child, a sense of independence and a positive self image. Children learn best by doing!
