The three-year-old class at Binkley Preschool is a place for children to play, explore and learn. Emphasis is placed on the development of social skills, self-help skills, and fine and gross motor skills.

As we play, we learn to share, take turns, and use words to communicate our needs and wants and to solve conflicts. Through theme-based units, we encourage creativity and exploration.

Some examples of our thematic units are All-About-Me, Holidays, Apples, Polar Animals, Seasons, Pets, Farm, and Firefighters.   These are subject to change based on students’ interests.

Our typical day consists of Circle time, Center play, Art activities, Storytime, Songs and Games, Snack, Outside play

The threes also participate in Music class with Mrs. Alberda! Read more about Music here.

Mrs. Prejs – Lead Teacher

Kim Prejs has been a teacher at Binkley Preschool since 2014 when she began as the lead 3-year-old teacher. She transitioned to the lead 4-year-old teacher position in 2021 and is excited to be back with the 3s in 2023!  She has a background in education, as she previously taught kindergarten and first grade in both public and private school settings. With a Master’s degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from NYU, Mrs. Prejs loves working with preschool-aged children, nurturing their love of learning and helping them to have a wonderful first school experience. What fun it is to watch them grow and learn, especially because their excitement is contagious! She feels so lucky to be part of the Binkley community and truly enjoys working with the whole family, getting to know all the important members of each student’s life. Mrs. Prejs lives in Carrboro with her husband, two daughters (one of whom is a Binkley grad herself!), and two dogs.

Mrs. Gude – Assistant Teacher

Chloe Gude received her bachelor’s degree in education from Appalachian State University. She has taught private violin and public orchestra programs in various settings since 2008. She enjoys working with both groups and individual students. Chloe quickly fell in love with Binkley when her daughter joined the Froggies class and was thrilled to join the Binkley teaching team a year later. Originally from Burlington, Chloe has called Carrboro home since 2010. In addition to playing violin in local classical groups, she spends as much of her free time as possible outside birding and learning about the world around her.
