The three year old class at Binkley Preschool is a place for children to play, explore and learn. Emphasis is placed on the development of social skills, self help skills and fine and gross motor skills.
As we play we learn to share, take turns and use words to communicate our needs and wants and to solve conflicts. Through theme based units we encourage creativity and exploration.
Our typical day consists of:
Children are encouraged to participate in activities that enhance their skills while also establishing friendships with classmates. The threes have the opportunity to participate in music class with Mrs. Alberda, every week!
It was meant to be that Kim Prejs enrolled her daughter at Binkley in 2014 and the opportunity to lead the 3 year old class arose at the same time. She eagerly leaped at the chance to be part of this wonderful preschool community. Kim has her Masters degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education and taught Kindergarten in New York and New Jersey before having her own children. Prior to moving to Chapel Hill, Kim taught preschool in Cary. She believes in the importance that a love of learning be instilled at an early age, as well as preserving childhood by giving children the opportunity to learn through play.
Marcy Derby entered the classroom in 1982 as a Kindergarten teacher with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She then continued to teach at the preschool level in the public schools. Marcy joined the Binkley family in 1993 as a parent and a board member while her daughters attended BPS. It was such a wonderful place to be that she joined the staff in 2003 as the 3's assistant teacher. Mrs. Derby enjoys her days in the classroom learning from the children while enhancing their experience at BPS.
